Do I Need To Show ID?
Yes, unless you are only purchasing homebrew supplies, you will need to prove you are 21+ whether you pick up CommuniTea Kombucha from a grocery store, farmers market, our brewery, or we deliver it to you at home. Because CommuniTea Kombucha contains more than 0.5% alcohol by volume (it contains between 1-2%), it is a licensed beverage with the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (LCB), just like beer, wine or cider. As such, you must be at least 21 years of age to purchase. When we do Home Delivery, LCB requires us to record our verification of your age with every delivery. The easiest way to do this is for you to provide that information online when you complete your order at checkout.
If you are ordering Home Delivery, and you are uncomfortable providing your ID information via our secure checkout system, or you are unable to do so, because someone else will be receiving the delivery for you and you do not have their ID information handy, LCB allows us to collect a photo of your ID, with your birthdate visible, when we deliver to you. To that end, we will ask the recipient of your order to photograph their ID in front of us, from a safe distance, and text that photo to our delivery driver immediately.
This brings us to another key point: you must be home to receive your delivery. It's the law, because our kombucha is a licensed beverage. It also means your kombucha, and your bottle and crate returns, will be more secure.
By 5pm, Wednesday, we will email you a one-hour estimated delivery window during which we ask you to be available at your delivery address to receive your kombucha. If you did not provide ID information at checkout, please respond to that email with the name and cell number of the 21+ person who will be receiving your delivery for you, be that you or someone else. We will send a text to that number before we leave the location of our prior delivery to let you know we are on our way, so that you or yours can be ready with an ID and camera phone to text us a photo of their ID and accept the order. You'll just need to text us your ID photo to that same number. Needless to say, this is more cumbersome than providing your ID information at checkout, but it is an available option.
